Cupcake is a cute, 8-year-old chihuahua mix who was surrendered because her family was not able to give her the time and attention she needed. Cupcake is as sweet as her name suggests! She’s incredibly affectionate with people, always ready for snuggles, and loves being near her humans. She settled into her regular and temporary foster homes right away and has been an absolute joy — well-behaved, completely housebroken (not a single accident!), and relaxed when left alone. She may whine softly for just a few seconds when she wants attention or when you first leave, but she quickly settles down. She is not happy about going into the kennel and will howl but eventually settles down however other than her first few days in foster, we have not needed to kennel her in either her foster or temporary foster homes. She sleeps on her foster’s bed at night and curls up on one of the dog beds on the floor of the home office during the day. She knows the commands for ‘sit’ and ‘shake’.
Cupcake loves walks. We give her plenty of chances to stop and check out the exciting odors along the way and she is not leash reactive to other dogs or people which makes walking her a joy. She would love a forever home where 1 to 2 walks are on the daily agenda. Cupcake likes to sit on the deck checking out the neighborhood sounds but prefers to be out if her people are there. She would do fine in a home with a fenced yard or no fence and a tie-out. She will be happiest to be where you are.
Cupcake has been in foster households with a middle-aged terrier and also with two beagles and some other fosters. She enjoys following her foster siblings around and will sometimes join in on playtime. However, it is important to note that she needs an initial adjustment period to settle into a new house and resident dogs before she feels comfortable around them. When first arriving in different foster homes she would give a quick, somewhat aggressive “back off” snap if she felt jealous, needed space or protective of her food. This behavior disappeared once she and her foster siblings got used to each other. Cupcake would probably be happiest in a household with mellow dogs who will give her space or as the only dog in her forever home.
Cupcake has also been in a foster home with one senior cat. She is not a fan of the cat and will growl and lunge if he gets too close. To be fair, the cat decided to get close to her face right after she arrived when she was pretty stressed out. We have done some work on trying to build a better relationship with positive associations but it hasn’t improved much so it appears that she would be better off in a cat-free household.
