H…Hi…I’m Daniel, but Poppa calls me Danny, he says Daniel is to formal. I'm a 2 year old golden retriever. My life before coming to NDLB wasn’t much to talk about. I was a breeder dog in a puppy mill. So I got minimal attention from the humans around us. But enough of that, NDLB got me out of there (guess that’s why they call it rescue). I now live in a home, with people who talk with me, spend time by me and even got me to try these things called treats. I was pretty reluctant at first, but once I finally tried one, I treats are YUMMY. I’m even getting excited to get out of my kennel and get pets from the humans, instead of just hiding in there. I’m still really nervous about a lot of things, sudden movements and sounds will cause me to bolt and/or hide, but poppa says I’m making great progress. If you have a quiet home, calm soft voice and patience, I will do my very best to become your perfect puppers. Hi Poppa here. Breeder release dogs are a special case. You are not adopting a perfectly adjusted dog to start with. If a perfectly adjusted dog is what you are looking for (and there is nothing wrong with that) then this is not the dog for you. Yeah, I know, that sounds like “why would I want this dog?” And to be honest, I’m blunt about that part because I need Danny’s family to consider the work involved before adopting. Now the payoff. If you are still reading, here is the beauty of adopting a breeder release dog: I see a beautiful gentle soul buried under the neglect. If you can see that, AND have the patience, calm behavior and love to help him dig out from under that, you will get to experience an amazing transformation. As he learns to trust, and that you care about him, you will experience so many firsts (tail wags, smiles, taking treats, coming to you, kisses). So many little changes we normally take for granted in a dog, you will know are huge milestones you’ll want to shout about. And, as you see these changes you will know you made them possible.
