“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” Quote by Josh Billings | ||||
Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) : : Female : : Adult : : Small
Hello! My name is Nez. I’m a female Terrier mix, approximately three years old, and I weigh 15 pounds. I was a stray in Mexico and the Mutt Mutt Engine organization facilitated my travel into the States so I could come into rescue at No Dog Left Behind. I arrived at my foster home in July. I have a foster mom and a foster dad, and they have four dogs the same size as me. They have all become my favorite friends. My foster mom says I’m sweet as honey, quiet, an excellent napper and nighttime sleeper, housetrained (not a single “accident”), comfortable with car rides, and am doing really well on leash walks. My foster dad is home all day so we have become the best of buds. I am looking for a home where my adoptive family can practice patience, understanding, and are dog savvy so they can help me build self-confidence. I take some time to warm up to people and other dogs. (We’re talking days, not weeks or months.) I need your guidance so I can learn how to relax and not be intimidated by new experiences. My foster parents are diligently working with me so I don’t react by barking, or sometimes growling, or sometimes lunging … but never biting. I’m just kind of scared with all I’ve been through. However, I’ve already made great strides, and I’m hopeful you can help me continue to move in the right direction in overcoming my anxieties. You will feel a sense of delight and accomplishment as you watch me improve.
Some important things to know about me: You will have to be sure that you practice slow introductions when meeting other dogs. And it would be best to have me on leash when new people come into your home. Also, you’ll need to be extra cautious when going in and out of doors to the outside. It’s not that I’m an escape artist. I simply don’t want to ever be called a stray again – I don’t like that title. I really enjoy my outside time in the fenced backyard. If you don’t have a fence, it is imperative that you keep me on a leash, preferably with a martingale collar or harness. I would do best in a home as either an only dog or with a family that has a dog (or dogs) my size. My preference is to be on the couch with you during the day and in the bed with you at night. Once I go to sleep, I stay put and wake up when you wake up. My best attribute is that I will do everything in my power just to be near you. I have outgrown the puppy stage – I don’t really play with toys or balls and I don’t chew on anything I’m not supposed to. My foster parents have trusted me to be free roaming if they have to leave me alone with my furry foster siblings. I follow their lead and relax, sleep, and await the return of the humans. I have not had much exposure to kids, but with my tendency to waver between being timid and reactive, it’s probably a good idea that I be around older kids who are understanding and respectful of my situation. With regard to how I would do with cats, no one has the answer to that question because I haven’t been “cat tested.”
If you’re looking for a companion who’s loyal and loving – and adorable – and if you have a desire to help a girl out in learning how to better trust people and other dogs, then I’m your girl – a work in progress so to speak, but worth every darn minute.
