Rover is a small 4-year-old male Brittany Spaniel born approximately 1/2022. He was found as a stray in Arkansas and found his way to Minnesota. Rover is a very social boy who LOVES to watch for critters in the yard. True to his breed - he is a pointer. He will freeze and point out rabbits, squirrels, and birds - anything that would run from him. Rover does require a fenced-in yard as he will take off after any critter that runs from him. This means that he is likely not good with cats (although this has not been tested – he does bark at stray cats in the neighborhood).

Rover is housetrained, never having an accident while in his foster home. He will also go in and out of his kennel on his own. He does not spend much time in the kennel but he does just fine for a few hours. Rover is friendly with people and has basic training. He doesn't pay much attention to the neighbor dogs at his foster home but at his previous foster he was fine with other dogs. Rover is also leash trained and LOVES car rides.

Don’t let Rover’s size fool you, he is not a lap dog and prefers laying on the couch or floor by himself to cuddling. He is not super food or toy motivated but listens well if not distracted by critters. He would love to spend his day looking out the window or guarding his yard from critters.

Rover has been diagnosed with Chronic Degenerative Valve Disease (CDVD). One of the valves in his heart is thickened which doesn’t allow it to seal properly. Consequently, blood flows back across the impaired valve during the hearts contraction. This causes over filling of a part of his heart that can lead to thickening of chambers in his heart. Currently he is classified as a B1 which means he does not need any medication because the thickness of his heart chambers is at the high level of normal. However, disease progression can happen at any moment and when that happens, he would be considered a level B2 and he would need to start daily medication (pimobendan). Due to this diagnosis the cardiologist recommends regular 6 month rechecks to ensure the disease is not progressing at a faster that normal rate.

If you are looking for an awesome, lower energy dog - Rover is your guy!
